East Barriere Lake is over 90m deep at it's deepest point. While the surface waters warm up to as high as 27C in the height of summer, the deeper areas below the thermo cline maintain a colder regime suitable for the elusive rainbow trout and other sports fish. Leisurely trolling is the primary method of fishing the lake, although fly fishermen are successful at the incoming creek estuaries, the many shoals or in the shallow bays. Kamloops Rainbow Trout and Dolly Varden trout are the primary catches. There are also Kokanee, Whitefish and Ling Cod (Burbot) in the lake.
